Android Loads Web Pages 52% Faster Than iPhone

If you are torn between an Android phone and an iPhone, you might want to take into account the results of a recent study comparing their browsing speeds.

A study conducted by Blaze Software revealed that Android loads web pages 52% faster than iPhone.  Blaze Software arrived at this result using a Google Nexus S handset running Android 2.3 and an iPhone 4 running iOS 4.3.   To get the average load times on both devices, Blaze did 45,000 load tests on websites of Fortune 1000 companies.  The load times were about a second apart for the two devices, with Android 2.3 loading in 2.144 seconds, compared to 3.254 seconds for the iPhone.

The test also showed that Android was faster than the iPhone in loading 84% of the tested Web sites. According to the study Android “wasn’t just faster overall, but rather provided a faster browsing experience four times out of five”.

The study also showed that even with significant JavaScript performance gains in the latest Apple iOS 4.3 release and Google Android 2.3 releases, the improvements made no measurable difference on the actual page load times of the sites tested.

If you are not a heavy browser, you can certainly overlook the difference.  But if you constantly load websites on you phone, the one-second difference could be a big deal.

  1. I confirmed it myself. android can even load map, tell your location and open application faster than iPhone. I tried it personally between my HTC Desire and iPhone 4. I don’t understand why people keep bragging that iPhone was faster…in which part?

  2. Pages load slowly on my Froyo phone. I shudder to think what iphone’s speed is if can’t top my lagging Froyo.

Or did they use something other than the stock Android browser?
