Filipino Kenneth Cobonpue Designs Bamboo Car

Filipino designer Kenneth Cobonpue recently came up with a concept car called the Phoenix Roadster.  Albrecht Birkner, another designer, helped Cobonpue build the car.

The Phoenix Roadster is a biodegradable car made up of bamboo, steel, rattan, and nylon.  Cobonpue was quoted saying that the project “attempts to unveil the future of green vehicles using woven skins from organic fibers mated to composite materials and powered by green technology”.

The Phoenix Roadster aims to provide a solution to the problem of accumulating waste created by old cars.  The car’s biodegradable skin is designed to last the average length of time a person keeps a car.  The skin can be replaced if the owner wishes to keep the car longer, and he can also customize the skin.

Neat.  Changing the look of this car is as easy as changing the look of your cellphone.

Kenneth Cobonpue earned his popularity by designing furniture made of bamboo and rattan. Among his known customers are Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.

  1. Nice concept. However, one’s gotta think about safety right? There’s not much protection. but i guess this one’s okay in golf courses, inside subdivisions, resorts.
