It’s Pacquiao-Marquez III on November 12

Its official. Manny Pacquiao will fight Juan Manuel Marquez on November 12 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.   Top Rank have met with Marquez and finalized the deal.

Golden Boy Promotions had the right to match any competing promoters’ offers for a Marquez fight, but Dela Hoya et al. were not able to match what Top Rank offered.  Marquez was offered by Top Rank $5 million to fight Pacquiao at a 144-pound catchweight in November.  Marquez will then get $10 million in a fourth fight if he defeats Pacquiao.

Marquez is a very tough fighter and gave Pacquiao a hard time when they fought in the past.  During their first fight, Marquez rallied from multiple knock-downs in the first round and got a draw.  The second fight was also competitive, with Pacquiao needing a knockdown to narrowly beat Marquez via split decision.  The third fight is expected to be as exciting as the first two fights.

Do you think this will still be a good fight considering Pacquiao’s dominance against bigger opponents in recent fights?

  1. ..and the catch weight fights are hurting Pacquiao’s legacy. hate that Pac-JMM III is taking place at 144. should be 140. it would be a more competitive fight and Pac would have no problems making the 140 lb. limit!

  2. Mayweather is most probably out of the picture for the entire year due to his legal battles. Pacquiao can fight newly crowned WBC Welterweight champ Victor Ortiz and I think the match-up can make a great fight. Victor’s young, strong, big and showed tremendous heart in his 12-round war with Andre Berto. The problem is Victor’s with Golden Boy Promotions and we all know Bob Arum doesn’t want to make deals with them after their allegations on Pacquiao. Cong MP can also face Timothy Bradley or Kermit Cintron. Pacquiao-Khan’s not possible, as they’re both trained by Freddie Roach. I think those four fighters can give Pacquiao real competition.

right on the money. those are the only possible opponents for pacquiao. sergio martinez is definitely not an option. pacquiao will be giving up too much in terms of size advantage. if martinez comes down to 147 there could be a fight but detractors would once again claim that pacquiao has beaten a drained opponent should he win

  3. Yes its not official. But I hope pacquiao will be agreeable to the contract in my opinion I don’t think marquez will stand a chance to pacquiao.

marquez seems to be the only option left for pacquiao. mayweather is clearly scared to face pacquiao.

  4. well, the match isn’t officially “on” as of yet. Marquez signed the contract, and Top Rank will wait for Pacquiao’s decision whether to accept the deal or not (and sign if he does). boxingscene reports Pac is likely to accept the deal. i don’t think it will be as tough and exciting as the two previous fights were. JMM didn’t look good in his fight against Mayweather Jr. which was held at welterweight. he looked terribly slow. imagine what a 2011 version of Pacquiao would do to a proud ageing Marquez.

in that sense, yes, it’s not final. pacquiao will have to sign everything before the fight is officially on. in my opinion it is a formality, with pacquiao obviously agreeable to the matchup. otherwise, why would top rank go to all the trouble of getting marquez to sign.

i agree to your assessment that the marquez fight will not be as exciting as the two. pacquiao is different now.
