Google Wallet Lets You Pay Using Your Mobile Phone

Credit cards are convenient replacement for cash but not everyone can get them and using them still requires a few steps and also uses up a few minutes of your time.  The popularity of mobile phones presented another way to make payment easier and quicker.  This technology called NFC makes smartphones not just devices for calling and sending text messages but also for paying for your purchases.  Imagine a future where what you’ll need is just your phone and nothing else.  Apps are making this possible and NFC will make cashless transactions possible.

Google is at the forefront of NFC payment technology and it recently unveiled a mobile payment system called the Google Wallet.  This service is expected to revolutionize how people shop.  What Google Wallet does is it allows you to pay for your purchases using your mobile phone instead of your cash or credit card.  It’s a convenient way of paying for your purchase and frees some space on your wallet.

So what, you may ask, are the features of the Google Wallet?  Here are the basic features.

1.    You can pay for your purchase with CitiCard, Mastercard or Google Prepaid Card by simply tapping your mobile phone.

2.   Google gives you Offers upon swiping which is saved to your Wallet and can be used at a later time.  Offers is a discount coupon given as a privilege for using Google Wallet.

3.  You can secure your Wallet through a security PIN.

I can already envision a future without coins, paper money, or plastic cards.  Right now, this service is available in the US but who knows, this might also become available in the Philippines in the future.  Only time will tell.  Meanwhile, we’ll continue to use cash or credit cards.
