iRiver Story HD: The First e-Reader With Integrated Google eBooks

Google announced the availability of the iRiver Story HD e-reader starting July 17.  The iRiver Story HD is the first e-reader integrated with the Google eBooks platform, through which one can buy and read Google eBooks over Wi-Fi.  This is a platform similar to that implemented by Amazon on its Kindle device.

The iRiver Story HD uses a high-resolution e-ink screen and a QWERTY keyboard.  With Google eBooks, you can store your personal ebooks library in the cloud allowing you to pick up where you left off and move one device to another.

iRiver Story HD E-Reader Specifications

  • 7.3 ounces
  • electronic paper display
  •  XGA (768×1,024 pixels) resolution
  • 63.8 percent more pixels and faster page turns
  • Freescale Semiconductor processor based on ARM Cortex technology
  • Wi-Fi
  • Up to six weeks of battery life from a single charge
  • QWERTY keypad
  • supports EPUB and PDF

With the current crop of touch screen ebook readers, the iRiver Story HD already looks dated, although specs-wise, it still looks better than an Amazon Kindle.

The iRiver Story HD retails for $140 and will be available for sale in Target stores in the US and on Target.com.
