New Apple Mac Mini Gets Intel Core Processor, AMD Radeon HD, Thunderbolt I/O and OS X Lion

Together with the unveiling of refreshed Macbook Air models, Apple also revealed a new Mac Mini which now features next generation Intel core processors, new discrete graphics, high-speed Thunderbolt I/O technology and OS X Lion.  With the current set-up, the new Mac mini is twice as fast as the previous generation Mini.

The design of the Mac Mini has not changed.  It’s still housed in a compact aluminium case that’s only 1.4-inches thick.  Its big on features, however, as it runs on the latest dual-core Intel Core i5 or Intel Core i7 processors (or a quad-core Intel Core i7 for the server model) and AMD Radeon HD 6630M discrete graphics.  The Mini lost the optical disc drive but it can access the optical drives on other PCs and Macs.

The new Mac Mini starts at $599 with a 2.3GHz Intel Core i5, which can be boosted to 3.4GHz through its Turbo Boost 2.0 feature.  It can already be purchased online and will be available soon in retail stores.
