Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-TX55 Digital Camera Takes HD Video and 3D Photos

Sony recently announced a new digital camera, the slim and stylish Cyber-Shot DSC-TX55.  It packs a 16.2 Megapixel Exmor R CMOS sensor capable of taking Full HD 1080p video and 3D still photos.  The TX55 has 5x optical zoom lens and features what Sony calls “By Pixel Super Resolution” technology.  What it does is it boosts the cameras’ zoom range to a virtual 10x without losing quality at the image sensor’s maximum resolution.

The TX55’s 3D Still Image capture mode allows the capture of 3D photos without the need for a stereoscopic lens.  Other 3D shooting options for the TX55 include 3D Sweep Panorama mode and Sweep Multi Angle.

The Cyber-Shot DSC-TX55 has SteadyShot image stabilization with Active Mode and offers seven Picture Effect options including HDR Painting, Rich-tone Monochrome, Miniature, Toy Camera, Partial Color, Pop Color and Soft High-Key.  It also has an Intelligent Sweep Panorama mode that makes 42.9 megapixel panoramas possible.

For viewing shots, the DSC-TX55 has a 3.3-inch Xtra Fine OLED touchscreen.   Memory formats supported are Memory Stick Micro (Mark2) and microSD/SDHC flash memory cards.

Sony’s Cyber-shot DSC-TX55 will be available in September 2011 and will be priced at $350.  Color options are black, purple and silver.

  1. I have been buying almost all sony camera models. But in DSC-TX55 I am unable to figur out as how to take 3D still image. I read user manual and spent several minutes going through the all buttons on the touch screen.
