Smart Communications Officially Launches the Netphone

At a media event held last September 1, 2011 at the Republiq bar in Resorts World Manila, Smart Communications officially launched the Netphone.  Smart has been aggressively promoting this product, and if I may make a guess here, it’s because the company believes that the next trend in mobile communications is on the social networking and instant messaging front.  Text messaging will not be gone but it has seen a decline in use while instant messaging and social networking has gained popularity.

Smart Communications wants to be at the forefront when the shift happens.  That’s why it launched the Netphone and that’s also why it is promoting the product aggressively.  The Netphone is a Smart-branded Android smartphone heavily linked to the Smart network and also heavy on internet and messaging features.  I’ll make a separate post about my impressions of the Netphone.  I’ll also try to do a hands-on review if and when I get a review item.

Smart pulled all tricks at the launch, bringing in celebrities and offering overflowing food and drinks.  I was at the event and was just glad to see familiar celebrities all over Republiq.  The company raffled off Netphones and free trips to the US, Hong Kong, Korea and Taiwan.  The event was hosted by KC Montero and Andi Manzano.  The Netphone is being endorsed by Sam Pinto and a few Azkals, notably Anton del Rosario and Ian Araneta.

Here are a few photos I took at the event.
