Nikon V1 and J1 Mirrorless Cameras Official: Specs, Price, Release Date

So, Nikon decided to dip its hand in the mirrorless camera market.  The company just officially unveiled two lightweight interchangeable lens cameras called the Nikon 1 Series.  Two cameras were unveiled in the 1 Series class:  The Nikon V1 and Nikon J1, both 10.1 megapixel CMOS shooters using new CX sensors.  They both feature 3-inch LCD displays, 1080p30 video recording, support for RAW images and, brace for it, 73 phase detection AF points. Yup, 73 AF points.  Nikon is even calling the 1 Series cameras’ AF “the world’s fastest autofocus.”  Additional features common to both cameras are 10fps shooting speed, ISO of 3200, and an EXPEED 3 processor.   Both also include a 10-30mm kit lens.

The Nikon V1 is more expensive because of some added features like a 921,000-dot LCD (the Nikon J1 only has 60k dots) and a built-in electronic viewfinder that covers approximately 100 percent of the scene at SVGA resolution.

The Nikon J1 will retail for $649.95 while the Nikon V1 will be priced at $899.95.  They will be released on October 20, 2011.  Check out the video below for more information on Nikon’s new Series 1 shooters.
