Amazon is holding an event on September 28 and TechCrunch says it is for the unveiling of the rumored Kindle tablet, which is to be named Kindle Fire. The choice of name is apparently meant to set it apart from the current e-ink based Kindle readers.
The tablet specs previously reported will remain the same and in case you missed my previous post on the Kindle tablet, here are the specs I’m talking about.
- It has a 7-inch capacitive touch screen that’s multi-touch and back-lit.
- It runs Android but it’s a customized version.
- It looks like a BlackBerry Playbook.
- There are no physical buttons on the surface of the device.
- This initial version of the device will be WiFi-only.
- There is no camera.
- There’s no Android Market.
The BlackBerry Playbook connection has been traced to original design manufacturer (ODM), Quanta, which designed the PlayBook and is the same outfit used by Amazon for the Kindle Fire. The Kindle Fire will run on a TI dual-core OMAP chip, the same chip used by the PlayBook and the clock-speed is rumored to be 1.2 GHz.
Fortunately, the Amazon event is very close so we’ll soon know the official specs of the Kindle Fire.

So what is the reason to get this one over iPad or a Samsung tablet? The pricing, perhaps?
that and the built in apps, i guess
