iPhone 4S Unveiled, No iPhone 5

After months of speculation, Apple finally revealed the the new iPhone.  The bad news is, it’s not an iPhone 5 as I have suspected in my previous post.  What Apple unveiled is an iPhone 4S, technically just a refresh of the current iPhone 4.  The 4S looks exactly like its predecessor which I know disappointed a lot of Apple fans. The good news, however, is that Apple has made the iPhone 4S quite a formidable phone with its features.

The iPhone 4S has the same 3.5-inch Retina display but it now has a dual-core A5 processor, a new dual-core GPU that boosts graphics performance by up to 7x, an improved antenna, dual-mode CDMA and GSM radio, and an 8 megapixel camera.  Apart for being upgraded to 8 megapixels, the iPhone’s shooter now has a backside illuminated CMOS sensor for better low-light performance and comes with a new 5-element assembly with a hybrid IR filter capable of apertures up to f/2.4.  This translates to better video capture as the iPhone 4S can now record 1080p video.

What may excite most is the addition of iOS 5 and Siri, a virtual assistant. What Siri does is allow the user to enter text, check the weather, get directions or perform web searches – not by typing but by dictation.

Here is the official iPhone 4S video from Apple.

  1. iOS 5 brings with it the option to use the ‘+’  button as shutter when taking landscape shots. Face detection is also an upgrade and works well.

      • I would say Siri is a wild card. Voice recognition / assistant software is not new (Google Voice, Vlingo, Dragon) and so far they all have questionable performance at best.

I’d wait and see what it’s like when actual people start using Siri in the wild. Too early to say that it’s ground-breaking.

  2. Looks like Apple has been Nokia-lized. Ano to? Paranv 3310?? Biglang may 3310i??? Lol

    • what happened? can’t keep up with your english? well just keep your mouth shut. didn’t like the phone? then don’t buy it. no one is forcing you after all.

    • I think they dedicated this to Steve jobs. that’s why they name it 4S.
