Samsung’s 2GHz Exynos 5250 Chip Features Dual-Core Cortex-A15 Processor

They just get faster and faster and faster. I’m talking about mobile chips.

The current norm when it comes to processing speed in high-end mobile devices is 1.5GHz.  Samsung indicated months ago that it will be making 2GHz processors.  Well, it’s now official.

Samsung just announced its 2GHz Exynos 5250 System-on-Chip (SoC) which features ARM’s new dual-core Cortex-A15 processor.  Just how fast is it? Samsung says it’s twice as fast as the 1.5GHz Cortex-A9.  That’s too fast.  Most mobile device users don’t need that kind of speed but who am I to complain. Faster is still better.

What else is the Exynos 5250 good for besides delivering highly improved processing speed?  It will reportedly bring a vastly improved 3D graphics performance over existing Cortex-A9 systems with support for stereoscopic 3D displays and will also support WQXGA (2,560 x 1,600 pixel) resolutions.

The new Exynos 5250 SoC will ship in the second quarter of 2012.  Right now, let’s enjoy the 1.5GHz Cortex-A9 variant.

  1. I hope octo-core will be coming soon… Then I won’t bother bringing my laptop to office everyday…
