Samsung Galaxy S II and Samsung Galaxy Note owners should rejoice. These devices will be the first Samsung Galaxy devices to get the Android 4.0 or Ice Cream Sandwich update according to Samsung electronics.
The company just announced its plan to provide the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for GALAXY devices in the first quarter 2012. If I may make a guess, the update will be provided in February of 2012. Samsung promises to deliver the ICS update to other GALAXY devices afterwards.
If you want to know if your device is upgradable to Ice Cream Sandwich, you should know that Samsung mentioned only these phones and tablets as ICS-ready:
- GALAXYS II
- GALAXYS IILTE
- GALAXY Note
- GALAXY R
- GALAXY Tab 10.1
- GALAXY Tab 8.9
- GALAXY Tab 7.7
- GALAXY Tab 7.0 Plus
Other Samsung Galaxy devices are apparently not upgradable to Ice Cream Sandwich.
For upgradable models, Samsung will make separate announcements on details of OS updates schedule for each market according to market situation and carriers’ requirements.
Ice Cream Sandwich is the newest Android, and it looks and feels like a new OS altogether. It has a redesigned user interface with a much better multi-tasking, not to mention a host of other new features.
