Toshiba Excite X10 Currently the Slimmest 10-inch Tablet

Toshiba currently owns the title as the maker of the world’s slimmest 10-inch tablet with the announcement of the new Excite X10 (to be called Regza in Asia according to reports).

The Toshiba Excite X10 comes in at only 0.3-inch thick, so that’s definitely thinner than the iPad 2.  The Excite X10 is also light, weighing only 1.2 lbs.  Even with its ultra-thin profile, the tablet manages to look good with a back that sports a brushed aluminum alloy finish.

In terms of specs, the Toshiba Excite X10 aims to impress with its dual-core TI OMAP 4420 1.2GHz processor, but we have seen quad-core tablets recently so this may not be that impressive.  The X10 features the now standard 1GB RAM to complement the dual-core chip.

The 10-inch screen has Gorilla Glass enhancement and sports a resolution of 1280×800.  If cameras are your thing, you’ll find the 5-megapixel back camera and the 2-megapixel front camera quite sufficient.  In terms of connectivity options, Toshiba is quite generous.  The tablet has micro USB, mini HDMI out, and micro SD card slot.

If you’re thinking this will run Ice Cream Sandwich, reports say Toshiba is a bit mysterious so this could run Android 3.2 Honeycomb, or this could still run Ice Cream Sandwich at launch.

The Toshiba Excite X10 is expected to launch in the first quarter of 2012.  Pricing is still unknown but it’s expected to be in the range of Apple’s iPad.
