Sony Xperia Ion: 4.6-inch HD Screen, 12 Megapixel Camera

One of the new handsets unveiled by Sony at CES 2012 is the Xperia Ion.  Just like the Xperia S, the Ion is Android phone but while the former has a 4.3-inch display, the Ion’s display measures at 4.6 inches, about the same display as the Samsung Galaxy Nexus.

The Sony Xperia Ion has pretty nice specs.  It packs a dual-core 1.5GHz MSM8260 processor, an HD Reality display with 1280×720 resolution complemented by a Mobile Bravia Engine, a 12 megapixel main camera with Sony Exmor R for mobile with Full HD 1080p video recording and Fast Capture feature, a 1.3 megapixel 720p front camera, 16GB internal storage, DLNA support, BRAVIA Sync and HDMI output.  The Xperia Ion also has Bluetooth, GPS, WiFi and in theUS, it supports 4G LTE.

The Xperia Ion’s design looks good and the 4.6-inch screen should also look great with its HD resolution.  To my recollection, this is the biggest phone from Sony and this competes with the big-display handsets from HTC and Samsung.

The Sony Xperia Ion will be released with Android 2.3 but an Ice Cream Sandwich update will be made available soon afterwards.  Pricing and availability in other parts of the world are still unknown at this point.
