Blackberry Empathy Concept Phone Mysteriously Trends on Twitter

The term BlackBerry Empathy is currently trending on Twitter and netizens have been sharing the image of the concept phone like it’s a real product from RIM.  A lot of people on Twitter are apparently digging the appearance of the BlackBerry Empathy and some are already waiting for the official launch of the phone.   The BlackBerry Empathy however remains to be a concept phone and what’s surprising is that this design concept was revealed in 2010.  It’s curious how the BlackBerry Empathy found it’s way back into the limelight.  My hunch is that someone could have suggested the product design to RIM’s new CEO.

The BlackBerry Empathy is a result of a sponsored project held by RIM at the Art Center College of Design and was designed by Kiki Tan and Daniel Yoon and incorporates an interface that integrates human emotions with the concept of social networking.   The idea is for the phone to collect emotional data with the help of a biometrics ring.  The BlackBerry Empathy features a transparent OLED screen that becomes transparent when not in use and opaque during interaction.  On the front of the phone is a touch screen and on the back is a physical keyboard.

Here is a video on the BlackBerry Empathy for those of you who want to know more about this concept device.
