Samsung Galaxy S Advance GT-I9070 Now Official

The Samsung Galaxy S Advance GT-i9070 has just become official.  Samsung just released an official announcement about the Samsung Galaxy S Advance, a new Android handset that was just a rumor until a few hours ago.  The rumor that the Galaxy S Advance could be announced by Samsung at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next month appears to be baseless now considering the official announcement form Samsung.

The rumored specs are correct though.  The Samsung Galaxy S Advance will feature a 1GHz dual-core processor, a 4-inch 800 x 480 display, 1500mAh battery, and a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash and 720p HD video recording.  The handset runs on Gingerbread with TouchWiz on top but Ice Cream Sandwich could be just around the corner if this handset truly goes into production.

From the release photos, the Galaxy S Advance appears to have a curved display just like the Galaxy Nexus.  This could be a welcome design detail for some, but for others who want their phone flat, this could be a turn-off.  I own a Galaxy Nexus and I can say that a curved display is nice.  There’s only one button in front and honestly, I’m digging the design.  It’s not as slim as the Galaxy S II though, but it’s still a looker.

In any case, the Samsung Galaxy S Advance looks to be somewhere in between the Samsung Galaxy S II and the Samsung Galaxy S in terms of appearance and in features.  The price for this handset in the Philippines is rumored to be at Php22,900.

According to Samsung, the Samsung Galaxy S Advance will be available starting with Russia next month, then in Europe, Africa, Middle East, Southeast and Southwest Asia, Latin America and China.
