Canon just announced the update to the popular PowerShot D10 waterproof/underwater camera which was released three years ago. The D10 needed some updating and thankfully Canon has come up with a better-looking and better specced follow up.
The Canon PowerShot D20 digital camera, just like the predecessor, is waterproof, shock-proof and freeze-proof. The rugged styling of the PowerShot D20 and is clearly designed for users who like outdoor adventure. It is ideal for backpackers, hikers, travelers, and underwater enthusiasts.
For features, the Canon PowerShot D20 has a 12.1-megapixel high-sensitivity CMOS sensor which should be sufficient for taking high resolution photos. The camera uses Canon’s DIGIC 4 image processor that delivers high quality shots. It also takes 1080p Full HD videos so it’s really ideal to carry around for outdoor or underwater videos. The D20 also incorporates a wind reduction technology that lets users capture audio even when the shot was taken in a windy or breezy environment.
The PowerShot D20 has a 3-inch LCD display for viewing shots. It has up to 5x optical zoom lens that let’s you zoom in for closer and tighter shots. Backpackers will love the D20’s GPS-capabilities which make it possible for users to track locations and tag photos with latitude, longitude, and elevation information. For underwater shots, Canon was nice enough to include a built-in underwater macro mode.
In comparison, the Canon PowerShot D10 only had a 2.5-inch display, 3x optical zoom, and VGA video output. However, it also had a 12.1 megapixel sensor and a DIGIC 4 processor.
The Canon PowerShot D20 digital camera will be available in May 2012 and will be priced at $349.99 ( about P15,000). Exact availability in the Philippines is still unknown.
