Survey: Nokia Still the No. 1 Phone Brand in the Philippines

Say what you want to say but when it comes to mobile phone ownership in the Philippines, Nokia is still number one.  We know that the iPhone and a bevy of Android handsets have taken control of the mobile phone market in other parts of the world but a survey by TNS revealed that in the Philippines, Nokia is still the brand owned by a majority of Filipinos.

The Mobile Life 2012 study by TNS showed that 64% percent of the respondents revealed they currently own a Nokia phone.  This is lower than the 70% ownership share in a similar study held in 2010 but 64% is still a huge market share.

It’s not a secret that Nokia is still one of the most trusted brands in the country.  It also offers some of the cheapest handsets and in a country mired by poverty, the cheapest phones get chosen by most users, so long as they serve the purpose and are tough enough for daily use.  Android is the leading platform nowadays and it appears that it will only continue to grow in the coming years.  Unless Nokia does something about its declining sales worldwide, even it’s position in the Philippines may change very soon.

Nokia is confident about its position in the Philippines, though.  Dharmesh Goshalia, General Manager of Nokia Philippines is proud that despite the deluge of other mobile phone brands, Nokia remains in the consciousness of Filipinos.  The company is also confident about 2012 as it sets to launch Windows Phone devices in the Philippines.  It also plans on releasing more dual-SIM and QWERTY devices.

  1. Nokia makes premium & technologically advanced smartphones as well like the Lumia series. I got a Lumia 920, very underrated smartphone, but actually it’s far more advanced than its rivals like the super hyped iphone 5 & s3,

  2. Well of course Nokia is still number one in this country.  What did you expect?  that the Philippines will catch up with the more sophisticated nations of the world in junking Nokia?
