Too busy to visit churches for your Lenten retreat? Problem solved.
Catholics who may be too busy to attend a full retreat this Lent may now have a virtual alternative courtesy of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP). CBCP’s website www.visitaiglesia.net offers an online Lenten retreat meant for people who do not have the time to do the actual thing.
The visitaiglesia.net website was launched in 2010 but it’s only this year that CBCP is featuring an online retreat. These are essentially just packets of video reflections that will serve as alternative catechesis to those who will have no chance of attending Lenten retreats. If you visit the retreat portion of the site now, it’s still empty but the materials will be made available during the first week of lent.
The Visit Iglesia website is feature-packed. It has a section for podcasts of reflections, Lenten blog entries from bishops and priests, homilies, Pasyons, stations of the cross, and other resources. It even has a section that features churches.
The CBCP is also taking advantage of video streaming technology. The Seven Last Words on Good Friday will be streamed online so as long as you have internet access, you can watch the feed straight from the Christ the King Parish in Quezon City.
According to CBCP the Visita Iglesia website got 150,000 visitors and 1.5 million page loads during the Lenten season last year. These figures should increase this year.
