Nokia 808 PureView Announced: Symbian Belle, 4-inch Display, 41 Megapixel Camera

 

That’s not a typo in the title.  One of Nokia’s newest handsets indeed features a 41 megapixel camera.   Called the Nokia 808 PureView, this handset breaks records when it comes to pixel counts in a phone camera.

With its amazing camera features, you may call the Nokia 808 PureView a successor to the Nokia N8 which, before the arrival of the Nokia 808, is the camera king in Nokia’s lineup.

As a phone, the Nokia 808 offers Symbian Belle OS, a 1.3GHz single-core CPU, a 4-inch 360 x 640 resolution nHD display, 512MB of RAM and 16GB internal storage expandable via microSD.  It also has HSPA connectivity at 14.4Mbps, a headphone jack, micro-USB and micro-HDMI ports.

Now let’s go to the camera features which are clearly the main selling points of the Nokia 808 PureView.  Apart from the 41 megapixel sensor, it has a Carl Zeiss lens capable of continuous-focus in 1080p.  The large 41-megapixels sensor benefits from what Nokia calls pixel oversampling technology.  What this does is it condenses four or five pixels into one pixel, to produce a smaller file size for the output image.  So this means the user can zoom without loss of clarity. At high-resolution (38 megapixel maximum) it means the ability to resize after the fact and still be able to get high resolution output.

The Nokia 808 PureView is also capable of capturing full HD 1080p video recording and playback with 4X lossless zoom.  It uses Nokia’s new Rich Recording technology that enables audio recording at CD-like levels of quality.  The Nokia 808 PureView even has Dolby Headphone technology that produces a surround sound experience over any headphones and a Dolby Digital Plus for 5.1 channel surround sound playback.
