HTC One X and One V Get Pre-Launch Treatment at Smart’s Jump Center

HTC’s newest Android handsets, the HTC One and One V were pre-launched at the Smart’s Jump center in SM Megamall and I was one of those invited to the event.  It was a pre-launch, which means that the main launch of HTC’s One series phones is still to be held.  The date for the main launch is April 13, 2012 and I hope to get more time with the new handsets at the main launch.

The handsets featured at the prelaunch were the HTC One X and the HTC One V.  Conspicuously missing was the HTC One S which was also globally launched together with the X and V at the Mobile World Congress.  Representatives from Smart Communications hinted though that the HTC One S, which sits between the flagship HTC One X and the cheaper HTC One V, will be featured at the main launch.  All these new phones feature Android 4.0 Ice Cream sandwich and HTC’s vaunted Sense 4.0 skin.

The HTC One X is of course the star of the launch, featuring a new unibody design, curved glass display, and quad-core CPU.  It also showcases HTC’s newest camera technology, one that has been receiving positive reviews.  What immediately caught my attention upon holding the HTC One X is the stunning display.  It’s crisp, sharp and has very good color rendition.  It competes with the best from Samsung, and what makes it better in my opinion is that the colors are not as oversaturated as those in Samsung’s Super AMOLED displays.  I also like what HTC did with the body’s design.  It’s classy and premium from every angle and the curved glass display only enhances the screen’s quality.  I hope to get a review unit soon so I can dwell more on the One X’s features.  Below is a photo of the HTC One X.

The HTC One V, on the other hand, occupies a lower position in the HTC hierarchy, featuring a smaller screen and a rather retro look.  Retro since it’s a copy of the HTC Legend’s design, including the very distinct curved lip at the bottom.  It also has a nice screen, not as good as the one on the HTC One X but still good in my opinion.  It feels good in the hand, and appeared sturdy and well made.  Below is a photo of the HTC One V.

Smart reps still do not have details as to the pricing and availability of these new HTC phones.  I will surely get these details at the main launch.  Stay tuned.

  1. I seriously wonder if the HTC One X has what it takes to beat the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S3. The S3 is rumored to have 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage and a generous 12-megapixel rear-mounted snapper with 1080p Full HD video recording capabilities. Other sources also mentioned a 2GHz dual-core processor might be included.
