Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0) Priced at $250, Galaxy Tab 2 (10.1) at $400

Samsung finally released the pricing of its newest tablets, the Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0) and the Galaxy Tab 2 (10.1).   These new tablets are considerably cheaper than the original versions so expect Samsung to sell truckloads.  The Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0) is priced at $250 (about P11,000) and the Galaxy Tab 2 (10.1) gets a $400 price tag (about P17,000).  These may be priced a bit higher though when they arrive in the Philippines.

The Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0) looks to be an Amazon Kindle Fire killer although it is priced $50 more.  In terms of specs, however, the Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0) is clearly the runaway winner, it having cameras, expansion card slot, and Ice Cream Sandwich OS.

The Amazon Kindle has a limited and also dated Android OS and has fewer features than Samsung’s 7-incher.   How is the Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0) different from the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus? It has the same screen but it has a slightly slower dual-core 1GHz CPU, a VGA front camera, it has no LED flash, and has ditched the front speaker grille.  It also has a different finish compared to the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus.  Still, in terms of overall specs and features, the Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0) is practically identical with the Plus, which makes the $250 price tag really enticing.

The biggest difference between the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus and the Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0), of course, is in the operating system.  The newer tablet runs ICS while the Plus runs Honeycomb.  In terms of performance,  ICS is way faster and smoother than Honeycomb, so if I were to choose between the Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0) and the Galaxy Tab Plus, I’d choose the former.
