BlackBerry 7.1 Update for BlackBerry Bold 9900 Now Available for Download

BlackBerry 9900 users in the Philippines have a reason to smile.  Research in Motion just made the BlackBerry 7.1 available for download by users in the Philippines.  BlackBerry 7.1 is the latest version of the BlackBerry OS and it offers significant updates from the previous version of the OS.

For starters, BlackBerry 7.1 now has a feature called BlackBerry Tag.  The BlackBerry Bold 9900 is NFC enabled and the Tag feature simply enables this.  To use this feature, 9900 users can tap their phones against another NFC enabled BlackBerry smartphone, making it easier to share stuff or to simply connect.  This NFC feature can be used to instantly invite a friend to BBM (BlackBerry Messenger), exchange contact information, documents, URLs, photos, apps and other multimedia content.  This NFC feature can also be sued to connect to an NFC enabled Bluetooth device.  NFC is not a new feature but its still nice to know that it is on its way to becoming a standard feature in current phones.

Another important feature that’s now available to BlackBerry Bold 9900 users is mobile hotspot, something that has been available for a long time in Android phones and iPhone handsets.  Again, although BlackBerry is quite late in introducing this feature, it’s still good news to Bold 9900 users in the Philippines.  With the mobile hotspot feature, you can turn your Bold 9900 into a Wi-Fi hotspot, connecting up to five devices at a time.

If you’re a BlackBerry Bold 9900 user, you may download the BlackBerry 7.1 update at ph.blackberry.com/ update or you may use the BlackBerry Desktop Manager software.  Share your impressions if you are able to update to BlackBerry 7.1.
