Lenovo Announces ThinkPad X1 Carbon, the Lightest 14-inch Ultrabook

Apart from announcing a slew of new laptops, Lenovo recently unveiled the ThinkPad X1 Carbon, a 14-inch ultrabook that Lenovo claims is the lightest in its class.  This is likely the case as the ThinkPad X1 sports a carbon fiber finish, hence the Carbon in the name.   Carbon fiber is known to be durable and light and this material makes up the Lenovo ThinkPad X1’s chassis.  The result? A laptop that weighs just three pounds and comes in at only 18 millimeters at the thickest point.  The whole chassis is coated in a fingerprint-resistant matte soft-touch rubber.

The thin profile is not the only desirable feature of the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon.  Its 14-inch screen has a 1600 x 900 resolution panel with 300 nits of brightness with very nice viewing angles.  The ThinkPad X1 Carbon also sports a deep backlit keyboard, a smooth trackpad and an eraserhead pointer with real mouse buttons for each.  For connectivity options, the ThinkPad X1 Carbon has USB 3.0 and 2.0 ports, a 3.5mm headphone jack, an SD card slot, a Mini DisplayPort socket, and a fingerprint reader.  Just like the original X1, the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon has a Rapid Charge feature which allows fast charging.  It fills 80 percent of the battery in just 30 minutes.

The retail price of the Lenovo X1 Carbon remains a mystery for now but as to availability, Lenovo says it will ship in the next two months.
