The increasing popularity of tablets and smartphones has admittedly affected the sales of netbooks. It used to be that netbooks were the popular choice when users want a computing device that’s very handy and very mobile. Now, users choose tablets for their portability and versatility.
Just when we thought that netbooks have outlived their purpose, Acer unveils a new netbook product, a sign that the market for this kind of platform is still alive and kicking. The new product is Acer Aspire One 756 with an 11.6-inch display, larger than the standard 10.1-inch display for netbooks. The display sports a 1366 × 768 resolution, sharp enough for a netbook this size.
What’s significant about this new product is that it has ditched the Intel Atom processor, using instead the much faster Intel Celeron 877 or Pentium 967/987 processor. These are not super fast processors that will quench your thirst for computing speed but they are nonetheless faster than the Intel Atom types. The Intel Celeron 877 has two cores with a processing speed of 1.4 GHz. It’s fast enough for a netbook. The Pentium 967 processor brings two cores as well but will clock in at a slightly slower 1.3 GHz.
For other specs, the Acer Aspire One 756 will feature up to 4GB of RAM (with up to 8 GB of installable RAM available) while storage will be 320GB or 500GB, depending on the user’s needs. The Acer Aspire One 756 will also be packing Wi-Fi connectivity, 2-in-1 card reader, a 720p webcam, and optional Bluetooth 4.0. This netbook will be using a 4-cell battery. For ports, the Acer Aspire One 756 will surely satisfy the needs of users as it will offer two USB 2.0 ports, a VGA port and an HDMI output.
The Acer Aspire One 756 will be available in black, blue and red according to Acer. Details on pricing and availability are still unknown.
