Acer Iconia Tab A110 Unveiled, Features Quad-Core CPU and Sub-$200 Price

We all know that Android tablets will soon become cheaper.  The Kindle Fire is a testament that tablets can be very cheap, but the Kindle Fire is not a full-fledged Android tablet and its specs are quite limited.  At the Computex 2012 in Taiwan, though, Acer unveiled a new full-fledged Android tablet that has good specs and, surprise, it will retail for less than $200 (about Php8,500).

The new tablet is the Acer Iconia Tab A110 and it could start a trend sub-$200 Android tablets. As Amazon has proven, the only way to compete with the iPad is not to go against it head on, but by offering a much cheaper alternative.  With the Acer Iconia tab A110, and with the previously announced Asus Eee Pad MeMO ME370T, Android tablets may have a chance against the juggernaut called the iPad.

The Acer Iconia Tab A110 has a 7-inch display with 1024×600 resolution and powered by Nvidia’s quad-core Tegra 3 processor.  Not bad for a sub-$200 tablet. Other specs include a 1GB RAM, a single front-facing camera, a microSD card slot, an HDMI port and dual-display support.  It runs Ice Cream Sandwich and comes in at 11.4mm thick.  It looks like this tablet will give the Kindle Fire real challenge.

Google has been rumored to be launching a Nexus tablet with a very low price tag but no clear details have emerged so far and Google has not really confirmed this.  Until Google’s Nexus tablet comes out, if it ever comes out, the Acer Iconia Tab A110 and the Asus Eee Pad MeMO ME370T should keep Android tablets afloat.

The Acer Iconia Tab A110 will be released during the third quarter of 2012.

  • Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich
  • 1GB RAM
  • 8GB storage (expandable via microSD)
