VLC Player for Android Now Available for Download in Selected Countries

The VLC media player from maker VideoLAN is one of the most popular players to date.  VLC is a free and open source cross-platform multimedia player that plays most multimedia files.  It practically knows no limits when it comes to playing video files, making it very useful and very handy in desktop settings.  Now it is also going to Android phones and tablets.

The Verge has reported that VLC is now available for download from the Google Play store, although upon checking, it is not yet available in the Philippines.  I will of course update this post once the VLC app appears on the Google Play store in my phone.  For other countries, however, the app is already available for download.  It is still in Beta version though, and VideoLAN even makes a funny warning to downloaders.

Here goes the warning:

This is a BETA version of the port to the Android platform. It is intended for power users and hackers. This version is NOT stable and is slower than the final version.

It might kill your kitten, destroy your house and start the mayan apocalypse.  Use it at your own risk. Have Fun! :)

VLC Beta is compatible only with Android devices with an ARMv7 processor that supports the NEON engine.  This covers most Android devices nowadays. VideoLAN is said to release a version that supports a wider range of devices.

VLC Beta comes with a widget.  Follow this link and see if you can download the app.
