Sony SmartWatch Priced at P5,990, Arriving in August

The Sony SmartWatch is finally arriving in the Philippines.  In an announcement in Sony Mobile PH’s Facebook page, Sony has confirmed that the SmartWatch will be available in Sony’s Concept Stores starting August.  Here’s the exact announcement from Sony:

Update discreetly and hands free with the Sony SmartWatch. This will hit Sony Mobile concept stores next month. The SmartWatch is the perfect companion to your Xperia and it is also a very stylish time piece.  SRP is P 5,990.

It cannot be clearer than that.  “Next month” is August, and the retail price is P5,990.  I wouldn’t know if the price is worth it, or the product is any good.  I would try to do a review of the SmartWatch if I get the chance.

As to specs and features, the Sony Smartwatch is an “Android watch” according to Sony.  In essence, it is a companion to Sony’s Xperia handsets, apart of course from being a digital timepiece.  The SmartWatch is a touch-screen remote control for Sony phones and also acts as display for updates on your phone.   It can be used to receive and reject calls and send pre-defined text messages.  There will also be compatible applications on Google Play that should add features and functions to the SmartWatch.  From what I know about the SmartWatch so far, it connects to the phone via Bluetooth and is only able to function when connected to the phone.  It is customizable using different wristband colors and may even be used as a clip.

The Sony SmartWatch is optimized for Sony’s Xperia phones and Sony’s Android tablets.  It also compatible with HTC Desire S, HTC Wildfire, HTC Wildfire S, Motorola Defy, Motorola Droid 2/Milestone 2, Motorola RAZR, Orange San Fransisco, Samsung Galaxy 5, Samsung Galaxy Ace, Samsung Galaxy Fit, Samsung Galaxy Gio, Samsung Galaxy Mini, Samsung Galaxy S II and Samsung Galaxy SL.
