Voxer: A Walkie Talkie App That Does More

One of my favorite chatting apps on Android and iOS is Voxer Walkie Talkie.  WhatsApp could be more popular at this point but Voxer is actually better, at least in terms of features offered.  I have been an active user of Voxer since the day I’ve discovered the app. In a nutshell, Voxer is a Push to Talk (PTT) app that works like a walkie talkie, but also functions nicely as a chatting app that makes sending text messages, photos and location messages fun.

The main feature of Voxer is sending instant audio messages.  A user needs internet connection either through Wi-Fi, 3G, 4G or Edge networks to be able to send audio messages.  As long as you have internet on your device, you can send audio messages, making your device an instant Walkie Talkie.  If both you and the person on the other end of the conversation are online, the exchange of audio messages is real-time, hence, in a sense it really duplicates the function of a Walkie Talkie.  But you don’t have to be online to compose your message.  You can do it offline and the app will send it once you have internet connection.   You can also check voice messages at a later time, with the option of playing them normally or at a faster pace.

Like WhatsApp, what’s good about Voxer is it’s cross-platform.  So even if you’re on Android, you can send audio messages to iOS devices and vice versa.  Users can also create groups, making it more fun to use in a school or work setting.  You won’t need other texting or chatting apps if you’re on Voxer.  With the app, users can also send text messages and share photos.  Sharing photos on Voxer is fast and almost instantaneous.  Text messaging is of course even faster.

Voxer Walkie Talkie is free on Android and iOS.  The app is ads-free so you won’t be seeing annoying advertisements.  That should be another reason to try it out.  To download, just search for “Voxer” on Google Play if you’re on Android and the App Store if you’re on iOS.
