Pinterest Android App Launched, Now Ready for Download

The popular pinboard sharing site Pinterest has launched an Android app and it’s now ready for download.  Pinterest is a website that lets users organize and share discoveries on the web and it has since gathered millions of active users.

Pinterest is a virtual pinboard.  Users pin their interests and share these pins with other users or followers.  Hence, the name Pinterest. Users can browse pinboards created by other people to discover new things and in the process, get inspiration from people with the same interests.  Pinterest users can repin, like and comment on other users’ pins.  In this sense, it’s like Facebook but instead of sharing status messages, users share pinboards.  Pinterest encourages users to use the site to find recipes, plan vacation destinations, collect music videos, discover design ideas, and save and compare shopping items.

Pinterest works with what it calls a “pin” which is simply an image added to Pinterest. A pin can be added from a website using the Pin It button on that site and each pin added using the Pin It button links back to the site it came from.  Images can also be uploaded by users directly from their computers.   Previously available on desktop and iPhone only, Pinterest is now on Android.  There’s even a new native iPad app as well.

The Pinterest app for Android is free.  Download it here or search for it in Google Play.
