Samsung makes Android handsets. It also makes point and shoot cameras. So if there’s any company that can pull off an Android camera that really works, it’s Samsung. With the announcement of the new Samsung Galaxy Camera, Nikon’s Coolpix 800c suddenly has a formidable competition.
The Samsung Galaxy Camera is a full-fledged point-and-shoot that runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. On the hardware side, the Galaxy Camera sports a 16 megapixel BSI CMOS sensor, 21x zoom lens (2.8-5.9, 23-480mm), pop-up xenon flash, quad-core processor and a 4.8-inch 1280×720-pixel display. This combination makes the Samsung Galaxy Camera truly drool-worthy. It also has a good set of connectivity options that include 3G, 4G and WiFi.
The camera’s software is quite nice as well. The Samsung Galaxy Camera will be preloaded with Photo Wizard and Movie Wizard apps. These apps let users conveniently edit images and videos. The Galaxy Camera also comes with a photo management tool called Smart Content Manager. Of course you can download photo apps from Google Play if you need to add functionality to the camera since this is an Android 4.1 device.
