Canon EOS 6D and PowerShot G15, S110 and SX50 HS Cameras Launched

Nikon launched the D600 full-frame camera a few days ago.  Canon just answered with the EOS 6D.  The new DSLR is a full-frame camera and it’s the smallest and lightest of its kind in the Canon line-up, the same way the Nikon D600 is the smallest and lightest full-frame DSLR in the Nikon line-up.

The Canon EOS 6D uses a 20.2 megapixel 36 x 24mm CMOS sensor and features an 11-point autofocus system.  It has a very high 25,600 ISO which can even be expanded to 102,400 ISO.   What the Canon EOS 6D has that the Nikon D600 does not have is GPS and Wi-Fi which are built into the camera. Viewing shots is through a 3.2-inch 1024k dot display.  The Canon EOS 6D is priced at $2,099 and will be available in December.

The other new cameras that have been launched by Canon are the PowerShot G15, PowerShot S110 and PowerShot SX50 HS.

The PowerShot G15 is a point and shoot camera with manual modes like a DSLR but housed in a compact body. The G15 has a 12 megapixel, 1/1.7-inch CMOS sensor, a 28-140mm, f/1.8-2.8 lens and a 3.0-inch display. The Canon PowerShot G15 will be available in October for $499.

The PowerShot S110 is the successor to the Powershot S100 and now features a 12 megapixel sensor.  It is paired with a 24-100mm, f2.0-5.9 lens and like the Canon 6D, it has GPS functionality and Wi-Fi.   The 3-inch screen on the Powershot S110 is touchscreen which should add ease to the camera’s control functions.  The PowerShot S110 will be available starting October for $499.

The PowerShot SX50 HS, on the other hand, features 50x optical zoom, a 12.1 megapixel BSI-CMOS sensor and 2.8-inch display. .  Other features include a 4.5-stop optical image stabilizer, 1080p video recording with HDMI out, f3.4-6.5 aperture lens and manual and RAW shooting modes.  The PowerShot SX50 HS will be available starting October and will retail for $479.

The Canon S110 does not have gps functionality if it relies on a gps capable smartphone to do geotagging.
