HTC One X+ Officially Announced

Tech sites had been abuzz for the past few weeks, reporting that HTC will be launching an update to its flagship Android handset, the HTC One X.   Reports mentioned the name HTC One X+ from the start and it turns out, the rumors had basis after all.

HTC just made the One X+ official.  It is not any different from the original HTC One X in terms of design.  From the outside, therefore, it appears that you are looking at the same handset.  The changes, however, are all found inside the device.  The HTC One X+, as the + in the name implies, is after all an upgrade.  So what has changed?

For starters, the 4.7-inch HTC One X+ is faster as it now uses a Tegra3 CPU clocked at 1.7GHz.  It also has a bigger 2,100mAh battery so usage should improve somehow.  The next noticeable change is in storage capacity.  The HTC One X+ now packs a 64GB internal storage, which should be more than enough to carry your important photos, videos, MP3s and other files.

In terms of software, the HTC One X+ is better as it now runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, the newest and brightest of all Android versions. It’s not stock, as you may have expected.  HTC loves its Sense skin so much it’s impossible not to get it when you buy an Android HTC handset.  The latest version is called Sense 4+ but it should look almost the same as the previous iteration. If you don’t like Sense, there are lots of alternatives on Google Play like the Nova Launcher or Apex Launcher.  These third party apps should give your HTC One X+ a “stock” look.  Rooting the device is of course the best way to get the real stock experience.

HTC introduced a new feature called the “Tap and Go” with Beats-branded speakers.  This simply lets users connect to these speakers by tapping the devices together.  Another improvement is in the camera software.  HTC added two new modes which are the Self Portrait mode and the Sightseeing mode which lets users quickly launch of the camera app.

The One X+ is scheduled to be released in Europe and North Asia this October and in South Asia in November.  There’s no word yet on pricing.

HTC announced during the launch that Android Jelly Bean with HTC Sense 4+ update will be rolling out to HTC One S and HTC One X handsets this October.
