Lenovo Launches Ideapad Yoga 13 and 11, IdeaTab Lynx and ThinkPad Edge Twist

Lenovo just launched three new Windows 8 devices – the Ideapad Yoga 13 and 11, the IdeaTab Lynx and the ThinkPad Edge Twist.  These devices will compete with the other Windows 8 offerings from manufacturers like Samsung, Sony and Acer.

Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 13 and 11

The IdeaPad Yoga acts both as a notebook and a tablet with a flip-and-fold design.  The display is not detachable like other tablet hybrids.  You simply flip the display over until it touches the back of the keyboard base.   The IdeaPad Yoga 13 will reportedly set you back $1,099 which will give you a setup with Core i5 or Core i7 Ivy Bridge processor, up to 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of SSD storage along with seven hours of battery life..  The display of the Yoga 13-inch should be good since it is an IPS multi-touch display with 1,600 x 900 resolution.  Connectivity options include USB 2.0, USB 3.0, a media card reader and HDMI output.

The IdeaPad Yoga 11, on the other hand, is ARM-powered and runs Windows RT.   It features an 11.6-inch multi-touch panel with 1,366 x 768 resolution.  The rest of the specs include up to 2GB of RAM, up to 64GB of internal storage, a USB 2.0 port and a media card reader.  The IdeaPad Yoga 11 starts at $799.

Lenovo IdeaTab Lynx

One of the new devices announced by Lenovo is the IdeaTab Lynx, an 11.6-inch laptop and tablet hybrid.  Unlike the Yoga, the IdeaTab Lynx has a detachable tablet just like the Asus Transformer Pad. The IdeaTab Lynx packs a a dual-core Atom processor, 2GB of RAM and 32 or 64GB of SSD storage.  It will have a 11.6-inch IPS display, micro-USB, micro-HDMI port, microSD slot and 2-megapixel front camera. The detachable keyboard dock has two USB 2.0 ports and a built-in 6,800mAh battery which improves the tablet’s usage from 8 to 16 hours.

The Lenovo IdeaTab Lynx will be available in December and will cost $600 for the tablet and $750 if you get the package with the dock.

Lenovo ThinkPad Edge Twist

The Lenovo ThinkPad Edge Twist brings back the twisting display of old laptops.  I remember seeing something like this from HP years ago.  The ThinkPad Twist has a 12.5-inch display that twists around and folded if you want to use it as a tablet.  The whole device is quiet thick though, especially if you want to use it as a tablet.  Being a ThinkPad, the Twist has the design elements and finish of the more business oriented ThinkPad line.

The ThinkPad Edge Twist has a 12.5-inch IPS display reinforced by Gorilla Glass.  It will pack a Core i5 or i7 processor and up to 8GB of RAM.  Storage options include a 128GB SSD or a 7,200RPM hard drive with 320GB or 500GB capacity.   Connectivity options include a memory card reader, two USB 3.0 ports, mini-HDMI output and a mini-DisplayPort.  It will be available this October and will retail for $849 and up.

Availability and pricing of these devices for the Philippines have not been announced yet.
