Google Nexus 7 Officially Lands in the Philippines; 32GB Variant Priced at P13,995

Google’s wildly popular Nexus 7 tablet is finally in the Philippines.  It has been available in the grey market for quite some time but it is now in the Philippines in an official capacity.  Asus Philippines is bringing the Nexus 7 to the Philippines since it is the manufacturer of the Nexus 7.

Asus Philippines announced the availability of the 32GB version of the Nexus 7 on its Facebook page and the price is pegged at P13,995.  If you ask me, this is still a very reasonable price even if it is a bit pricier compared to the units sold int the US.  The reason for the higher price is taxes, of course, and the fact that the services that Google get income from like Google Books are not available in the Philippines.  When the Nexus 7 became available through online sellers about a month ago, the 16GB version was going for P15,000 while the 8GB version, which was the one I bought, was retailing for P12,500.  The one being sold by Asus Philippines is the new 32GB variant, which makes the price of P13,995 clearly very reasonable.

I have reviewed the Nexus 7 and you can find my review here.  I gave the Nexus 7 a glowing review, and for good reasons.  The tablet has beautiful screen, it is blazing fast since it has a quad-core CPU, and it is beautifully designed.   What could disappoint others is the lack of a rear camera, although it has a 1.2-megapixel front shooter.

The main specs of the Nexus 7 include a 7-inch 1280×800 IPS display, 1.3GHz quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 CPU, 1GB RAM, 32GB storage, and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.  There is already an Android 4.2 update so that should only make the Nexus 7 purchase more enticing.  You should note, however, that the current version from Asus Philippines is not 3G or 4G capable, although it has Wi-Fi connectivity.

The Nexus 7 is available at Asus Philippines concept stores and authorized retailers.  Check out the poster above for details.
