Nokia Asha 205 and Asha 206 Unveiled with New “Slam” Feature

Nokia recently unveiled two new phones in its Asha line.  Together with the unveiling of the new feature phones, it also introduced a new feature called “Slam” which is something similar to the Bump app on the iPhone, without the actual bumping of the devices.  Slam lets users of the Nokia Asha 205 and Asha 206 transfer and share files like photos and videos with nearby users using Bluetooth connectivity.  The connection is achieved without having to pair the devices and even if the recipient does not have the same Slam feature.  Slam works with Bluetooth 2.1 and up and will work on other platforms, except Windows Phone and iOS.  Files are transferred through Slam without having to connect to the internet.

The Nokia Asha 205 and 206 come in single and dual-SIM variants so multi-SIM users definitely have new handsets to consider.  These feature phones have microSD expansion slots that accommodate up to 32GB storage capacity. They are also directed at the social network addicts as they both feature dedicated Facebook buttons.

For the main specs, the Nokia Asha 205 features a full-QWERTY keyboard and a 2.4 inch screen with 320 x 240 pixel resolution.  Internal storage is a paltry 64MB so the microSD expansion slot is definitely necessary.  The Asha 205 has a 0.3-megapixel camera which is almost unusable by current standards but a camera is still a camera so this should still be considered a plus.

The Nokia Asha 206 has the same 2.4-inch screen but with a different orientation.  Unlike the Asha 205 that features a QWERTY keyboard, the Asha 206 has a regular keypad.  It also has a 64MB internal storage but the camera is better at 1.3-megapixels.

The Nokia Asha 205 and Asha 206 are priced at $62 (about P2,600) before taxes and will be available before the end of 2012.
