ZTE Grand S Launched, Claims to be the Thinnest 5-inch 1080p Phone

ZTE used to be associated with budget handsets with mediocre specs. Now it has announced its lofty ambitions by launching what it claims to be the thinnest 5-inch phone with 1080p display. Called the ZTE Grand S, the new phone is obviously ZTE’s flagship device based on the high-end specs it carries.  The ZTE Grand S has good looks to match the nice hardware specs. The handset looks like something that would come out from a collaboration of Samsung and HTC, which is to say that the Grand S actually looks great.

The specs of the Grand S give justice to the handset’s name, and if only people will pay attention, ZTE has a really good product here. The 5-inch display, as already mentioned, sports a 1080p full HD display with 1,920 x 1,080 resolution. That seems to be the trend with phone makers as Sony’s Xperia Z and Huawei’s Ascend D2 are also 5-inch 1080p devices. ZTE claims the title as the thinnest in this category, however, coming in at only 6.9mm thick.

The ZTE Grand S doesn’t only have a great screen, it is also a powerful device as it packs a 1.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor paired with 2GB of RAM. That’s a really fast combination, but of course you already know that. Photo enthusiasts will love the 13-megapixel rear camera, and even the 2-megapixel front camera, both of which can take 1080p videos. Internal storage is 16GB which, by current standards, is really not much but is still acceptable. What’s great about the Grand S is it has a microSD slot so there’s room for storage expansion. There’s LTE connectivity but it could be available only in selected countries.

What could be a real dealbreaker is the 1,780mAh battery of the Grand S which is really paltry considering the size and the power of the device.  The Grand S will run Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

As to price, nothing has been announced yet. Considering it’s something from ZTE, expect the Grand S to be reasonably priced.

  1. Ive read good things about zte phones. E.g zte v790 only has 1200 mAh battery but it can last for 2 days for normal usage and 6 hours straight brwsing and gaming.

  2. downside only would be the battery consumption, but nevertheless its still a great phone. If it doesnt exceed the 10k price range, i may think of purchasing it instead of waiting for the Cherry Omega. :)
