Rumor: Samsung Galaxy Note III to Pack an 8-core CPU, 6.3-inch Display

Always remember this: a rumor is just a rumor until the official announcement.

Having said that, sources say that the next Galaxy Note, which I assume will be named Galaxy Note III, will pack a 6.3-inch display and an eight-core processor.  The source of the rumor is Korea Times, and since Samsung hails from Korea, there could be some truth to this rumor.  The publication claims that the information came from Samsung officials.

We know that Samsung outdoes itself every time, so a 6.3-inch “phablet” is not really unthinkable.  Huawei announced a 6.1-inch phablet during CES 2013 so Samsung may reclaim the honor of owning the biggest phablet in the market.  Then again, at 6.3 inches, the Galaxy Note III could be too huge for the ordinary hand. However, if there’s anything the original Galaxy Note taught us, it’s that people like huge displays in their smartphones. What I’m saying is, this rumor could turn out to be true but it’s really too early to say since it’s only been a few months since the Galaxy Note II hit the market.

The other rumor which is more likely to be true is the use of an eight-core processor for the Galaxy Note III.  Samsung recently announced the Exynos 5 Octa, a mobile processor which features eight cores.  This processor could find its way into the Galaxy Note III, possibly also into the Galaxy S IV.  With this processor, I can imagine a super smooth, blazing fast performance for the Galaxy Note III so hopefully Samsung really uses the Exynos 5 Octa chip.

The Samsung Galaxy Note III is expected to be announced in the fall of 2013, which is really too far into the future.  There’s nothing that would indicate that the 6.3 display is a sure thing, nor that the Exynos 5 Octa processor will be featured in the Note III.  But since devices take long to design and test before actual launch, it is very possible that Samsung is currently testing such a device in its labs.  Whatever the case, a lot of things can happen from now until launch later in the year so let’s just wish that Samsung will have something exciting in store for its loyal followers.
