Torque Droidz Race Android Tablet Announced, Specs and Price Detailed

Torque, the other aggressive local brand apart from Cherry Mobile, just launched another Android tablet for the budget-conscious Filipinos.  Torque currently has the Droidz Flash, Droidz Portal and Droidz View Android tablets in the market but there’s always room for another one.

The new Android tablet is the Torque Droidz Race and it’s another 7-incher.  Torque’s pricing is the main attraction here since the Droidz Race is priced at only P3,699.  That’s too low, too cheap, too affordable you’d think there’s a catch.  Looking at the main specs of the Droidz Race, you will not see any obvious drawbacks from this tablet.  Maybe it has poor construction or something but until I’m able to review the device, I wouldn’t actually know.  It’s just an assumption one has to make since the price is just too low for a tablet.

In any case, the Torque Droidz Race is an Android Ice Cream Sandwich device, so that should mean the tablet will be considerably faster than the previous Gingerbread-running tablets from Torque.  Take note, however, that the processor isn’t multi-core so that should definitely affect the multitasking capabilities of this tablet.  The Droidz Race is powered by a 1GHz single core Allwinner processor and there lies one obvious compromise Torque made in order to achieve the low price point.  The processor is paired by 512MB of RAM and the main camera maxes out at only 2 megapixels.   There’s a front-facing camera but it’s just VGA type.  For internal storage, you’ll get 4GB but at least there’s a microSD slot for storage expansion that can accommodate up to 32GB.   There’s Wi-Fi, GPS and accelerometer but this one has no 3G capability.

Here are the main specs of the Torque Droidz Race.

Torque Droidz Race Specs and Price

  • 7-inch WVGA 800×480 capacitive touchscreen
  • 1.2GHz Allwinner processor
  • 4GB internal storage
  • 512MB RAM
  • microSD card slot (up to 32GB)
  • 2-megapixel rear camera
  • VGA front camera
  • Wi-Fi
  • Standard micro-usb
  • 3-Axis Gyro/Accelerometer
  • 3.5mm stereo headphone jack
  • Full HD Video 1080p playback
  • Price: P3,699

There you have it. From the specs of the Droidz Race, you’ll already see where Torque skimped.  The specs list did not mention anything about Bluetooth connectivity so I guess it’s safe to assume that this tablet does not have it.  Considering the price, however, this tablet is at least worth looking into.
