Starmobile Icon Unveiled, Features 4.3-inch Display and Quad-Core CPU

Starmobile, the relatively new brand in the local mobile scene, just unveiled a host of new Android devices.  The new devices are meant to impress Filipino users and it appears that they might just accomplish that.  Among the models introduced are the Icon, Jump, Knight and a few other models in the Diamond and Engage series.

The Starmobile Icon is a mid-range phone that packs a 4.3-inch qHD display with Dragontail reinforcement, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 8-megapixel rear and 5-megapixel front camera and dual-SIM functionality.  The camera on the Icon is BSI type, where BSI stands for back-illuminated sensor.  This image sensor captures more light compared to other types of sensor and is therefore better when it comes to low-light performance.  One of the Starmobile Icon’s attractive features is the 5-megapixel front-facing camera.  Filipinos are taking more “selfie” shots nowadays so a high megapixel front facing camera is a welcome feature.  Both cameras are BSI and have auto-focus, so the Starmobile Icon is touted as the first Jelly Bean smartphone with dual-BSI and dual-autofocus features.

In terms of design, the Starmobile Icon is good-looking but it’s something we’ve seen in previous handsets, possibly from other brands.  The Icon has the usual three capacitive buttons at the bottom.  The Starmobile Icon runs on the Jelly Bean version of Android, version 4.1 to be specific, and it appears to be mostly stock.
