Sony Unveils PlayStation 4 Hardware, Priced at $399

Around February of this year, Sony unveiled the features of the PlayStation 4 but did not reveal the actual hardware.  It only revealed the DualShock 4 controller and the Eye, but not the console itself.  Microsoft unveiled the Xbox One since then but now, Sony finally unveiled the PlayStation 4 hardware.

The design of the PlayStation 4 is rather boxy, just like the Xbox One.  It has eschewed the curved design of the previous iteration and now looks more serious, or unnoticeable if you may.   Just like the Xbox one, the PlayStation 4 is a two-tone affair, but it is mostly black.  One part is glossy and the other part is matte.  There appears to be two columns divided by a strip of purple.  The columns are then slightly angled, resulting in a rather strong profile.

The PlayStation 4 uses an X86 processor with enhanced PC-style GPU, and has 8GB of GDDR5 unified high-speed memory.   Its 8 CPU cores is said to be capable of churning out almost 2 teraflops of computational performance.

Apart from the hardware, Sony also revealed the pricing for the PlayStation 4.  It will retail for $399, or $100 cheaper than the Xbox One. As to availability, Sony just mentioned it will be available in the holiday season, which means anytime in December.

Here are the press photos for the Sony PlayStation 4.
