Press Photos of Nexus 7 Successor Leaked

With the current amount of info being thrown around the web about the successor to the Nexus 7, everyone will be surprised if it does not turn out to be real.   A video featuring what was purported to be the new Nexus 7 was leaked a few days ago.  The video was quite extensive and showed practically everything about the tablet.

Now alleged press photos about the new Nexus 7 are spreading online.  The photos are consistent with everything we know about the tablet so far and confirm the appearance of the tablet at the very least.  What’s hard to know at this point is the set of hardware specs of the new Nexus 7.  Here are the alleged press photos of the tablet.

The photos are rather high-res so we can see the details about the tablet’s design clearly.  The Nexus logo is now presented vertically and there are speaker grilles both on top and at the bottom of the tablet.  The back now has a matte rubber finish which is quite a departure from the dotted smooth finish on the back of the current Nexus 7.   There’s also clearly a rear-facing camera positioned on the upper corner of the device although flash is conspicuously missing.  It’s also clear from the picture that the micro-USB slot is located at the bottom while the top houses a 3.5mm headphone jack.

On the front, the new Nexus 7 is quite interesting to say the least.  It’s clear from the press photos that the bezels are not equal in width.  Those on top and at the bottom are substantially thicker than those on the sides.  This actually makes the tablet unattractive with those wasted real estate on the top and at the bottom of the tablet.  A front-facing camera is visibly located on top while at the bottom, just below the main control buttons, is a light indicator.  If the profile shot is real, the thickness of the new Nexus 7 has been reduced.

According to recent leaks, the new Nexus 7 will have a 1920 x 1200 display and will be available in 16GB and 32GB variants.  The 16GB variant will allegedly be priced at $229.99.
