Samsung Patents Smart Watch Design, Could be the Galaxy Gear

Samsung has already applied for the registration of the trademark SAMSUNG GALAXY GEAR.  That is expected to be the name of the upcoming smart watch product from the Korean company.  This is evident from the list of goods expected to be covered by the trademark application, which specifically says:

“Wearable digital electronic devices in the form of a wristwatch, wrist band or bangle capable of providing access to the Internet and for sending and receiving phone calls, electronic mails and messages.”

Now all we need to know is the design, right? We may now know how the Samsung Galaxy Gear may look like, at least in sketches.  Someone has unearthed three design patents filed by Samsung in Korea, and they definitely show a smart watch design.  There is no telling if this is the final design of the Galaxy Gear but at least this is an indication where Samsung is headed when it comes to designing its smart watch.   Here are the sketches of the Samsung patents for the possible Galaxy Gear smart watch.

The Samsung patents show a watch with Android controls and features a flexible display.   This sounds a lot like something Samsung will make.  If recent rumors are to be believed, the following are the expected specs of the Samsung Galaxy Gear.

  • CPU: Samsung Exynos 4212 dual core 1.5GHz
  • GPU: ARM Mali-400 MP4
  • RAM: 1GB
  • Display: 320×320 (3cm×3cm – 1.67-inches) AMOLED (not sure if it’s flexible)
  • Camera: 2 Megapixel
  • Connectivity: Bluetooth, NFC

Hopefully we will see the actual product soon.
