Google Rolls Out Crisis Map for Typhoon Maring

Google is known for its Maps products and now it has put its resources to help Filipinos.  In order to guide and inform those who want to get updates on the status of typhoon Maring (Trami) in the Philippines, Google has set up a crisis map that contains helpful information.  The map can be accessed using a browser on desktops or on mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets.

“Coming from our experience during recent typhoons, we realize that we are in a unique position to help our fellow Pinoys through technology. We will continue to assist in disseminating information to the public,” said Aileen Apolo, head of Google Southeast Asia’s outreach unit.

Google’s crisis map has information on areas that have been declared under state of calamity as well as areas on where the flood shelters are located.  It even has information on the typhoon path, complete with imagery on clouds, landslide and flood-prone areas, and rainfall and flooding forecasts.  Google’s crisis map also has links to important contact information such as emergency hotlines.  The map also provides links to useful websites like rescueph.com and government websites that provide updates on Maring regularly.
