Sony Xperia Z1 Announced, Packs 5-inch Display and 20.7MP Camera

Sony has a new flagship Android device officially named Xperia Z1, an update to the previous flagship phone which is the Xperia Z.  The Sony Xperia Z1, leaked extensively as the Honami, has imaging chops that make it a true alternative to full-fledged digital cameras.

The Sony Xperia Z1 packs a 20.7MP rear camera which is a huge improvement to the 13MP camera on the Xperia Z.  The Xperia Z uses a 1/2.3-inch Exmor RS CMOS image sensor and Sony’s G Lens with 27mm wide angle and f2.0 aperture.   It also features a Bionz image processing engine which is seen on Sony cameras. The phone also provides 3x optical zoom that Sony proudly declares to result in “zero distortion”.

In terms of hardware specs, the Sony Xperia Z1 has a 5-inch 1080p Triluminos display with Sony’s X-Reality technology.  It is powered by a 2.2Ghz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor paired with 2GB of RAM and 16GB internal storage  which is expandable via microSD card slot.  The device packs a 3,000mAh battery.  The Xperia Z1 runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean out of the box.
