iPhone 5C: Colorful But Not Cheap

The leaks have been right all along.  Apple was indeed working on an iPhone enclosed in a plastic case and the phone would be named iPhone 5C.  Apple has apparently lost control over its secrets.  Even the leaked photos were on the money.  The color options were even accurate as well.

So now the iPhone 5C is official.  It’s a new kind of iPhone, at least when compared with the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5S designs.  It’s once again back to plastic materials and bright hues for Apple.  The rumors suggested that the iPhone 5C would be a cheaper iPhone meant to battle the feature phones or the cheap Android phones.  This is sadly not the case as the iPhone 5C is priced just a tad lower than the iPhone 5.  The iPhone 5C is priced at $549 off-contract or prepaid and $99 on contract.  In Philippine peso the price would be around Php24,000.  If it were priced at P15,000, the iPhone 5C would certainly be an instant hit.  In any case, the iPhone 5C is practically the iPhone 5 without the aluminum casing.  So in essence, the pricing is justified.  Sort of.

The iPhone 5c features a design crafted from a single, hard-coated polycarbonate body.  That should make the iPhone 5c tough and durable, especially since the polycarbonate body is said to be reinforced with a steel frame which also holds the internal components and also doubles as the iPhone 5c’s multiband antenna.  The enclosure is finished with a hard coat, resulting in a glossy look.  The iPhone 5c will be offered in five colors, namely, blue, green, pink, yellow and white.

Here are more photos of the iPhone 5c.

If you don’t like the glossy appeal of the iPhone 5c, Apple has designed cases with matte finish with circular patterns that still shows the true color of the phone.
