iPhone 6 Rumored to Feature a 4.8-inch Display

Apple is known for being stubborn with respect to adopting a bigger display for the iPhone.  Even as big display smartphones are increasingly becoming more popular, Apple resisted change and in fact, before the release of the 4-inch iPhone 5, it was satisfied with the 3.5-inch display on the iPhone.

If you are still dissatisfied with the 4-inch display on the current iPhone 5, iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c handsets and would rather buy a phone with a much bigger display like the one found on the Nexus 4, the HTC One, the Samsung Galaxy S4 or the Sony Xperia Z1, you might be happy with the rumor that Apple is working on a bigger iPhone.  Sources say that Apple’s iPhone 6 will feature a bigger dispay.  How big, you may ask?  Try 4.8 inches.

Reports from the Wall Street Journal, Reuters, 9to5Mac, GigaOM and BGR claim that the iPhone 6 will have a bigger display.  While previously it unclear what display size the iPhone 6 will use and was only expected to be anywhere between 4.7 inches and 5 inches, recent reports say that the iPhone 6 will have a 4.8-inch screen.

The source of the new reports is Jefferies & Co. analyst Peter Misek who increased his target on Apple’s stock shares from $450 to $600.  He was quoted as saying:

Despite still seeing risk to CQ4 and FY13 revs, we now believe better [gross margins] will allow Apple to skate by until iPhone 6 launches with its 4.8″ screen. We est ~50% of smartphone shipments have >4″ screens and that iPhone 6 will catalyze a large upgrade cycle. The stock is attractive based on the attitude change, FY15 revs >+15%, and valuation.

This particular analyst is considered to be a good source of rumors regarding unreleased Apple products in the past so there may be basis for the claim Apple is working on an iPhone 6 with a 4.8-inch display.
