Globe Restores Signal in Tacloban City After Yolanda Onslaught

With people from outside Tacloban City desperate to reach their families to learn about their status after being hit hard by typhoon Yolanda, the first telco to have restored signal in the city was Globe Telecom.  It’s just a partial restoration of mobile communications since it was done through a temporary site.  Globe has set up facilities in Hotel Alejandro, letting residents use their phones somehow, although Globe said only 2G signal is available.  People in Metro Manila who have relatives in Tacloban City have confirmed that they were able to call through Globe although some say it’s not too stable.

Smart’s communications claims on the other hand that it will restore partial mobile services in Tacloban City in less than 48 hours.  Smart has however set up a “Libreng Tawag” service at the PLDT office near the Tacloban City Hall.
