If you’re an internet regular you have likely already encountered a 404 sign. A website that turns in a 404 error page does not have the specific link you want to access, either because it has been removed from the website, or you have simply accessed a web page that does not exist at all. Websites have varying ways of handling 404 errors. Some are straightforward while some have 404 messages that are fun or creative. Most of the creative ones are consistent with the tone of the website but some are just surprisingly unexpected.
Here are some examples of cool and creative 404 pages. Click on the photo to go to the featured website.

Thanks for this post, it was solid inspiration recently for me. I was asked to redesign our 404 page and had no clue what the expectation was besides “it can’t be just an error page.” This post helped make sense of it all for me, and this is what I ended up with: http://ledgernote.com/dat-404-doe/ I added javascript to get each element to dance to our theme song. It’s pretty nifty. Anyways, thanks again for saving me time with this roundup.
